I'm not a Ma...tq for this little piece of history.<br /><br />I'm not a Malay lit scholar or anything (tapi saya ada lah juga membaca sejarah melayu dll) but I believe you are right about "paman" atau "bapa saudara".<br />In my family we do refer to some uncles as "mamak" and no, they don't look anything like teh tarik mamak.
